Privacy Policy
This Privacy Policy explains how JTech Forums (“we,” “us,” or “our”) collects, uses, and protects information in connection with JTech Forums Filter Installer (the “Service”). The Service is a web application that allows a user, with their explicit permission, to interact with a connected device via the WebUSB API to install Mobile Device Management (“MDM”) software and, if selected by the user, set that MDM as the device owner.
Key Points
- The WebUSB device connection occurs locally in your browser after your explicit permission. We do not access your device without your action.
- We do not collect personal data from the connected device during WebUSB sessions except the minimum technical information needed to perform the installation steps you choose (for example, device model identifiers or status codes necessary to proceed). Unless expressly stated, this technical information is processed transiently in your browser and is not stored on our servers.
- You control whether to proceed with installation, including setting an MDM as device owner. Setting a device owner may have significant effects on device behavior and permissions.
Information We Collect
1) Information you provide
- Contact information if you email us or submit a support request (e.g., your email address and the content of your message).
- Preferences you select in the Service (e.g., which MDM package to install).
2) Information collected automatically
- We may use privacy-respecting analytics to understand basic usage (page views, referrers, and similar aggregate metrics).
- Our hosting/CDN provider may automatically log requests (IP address, User-Agent, timestamp, and basic request metadata) to deliver the site securely and reliably.
- Cookies/local storage: we may use strictly necessary cookies or local storage to remember your choices and improve experience. We do not use these for cross-site tracking.
3) WebUSB device interaction
When you connect a device via WebUSB, the browser asks for your permission. Data exchanged over WebUSB is used solely to carry out the actions you select (e.g., transferring an APK/MDM payload, sending installation commands, checking status). Unless otherwise stated, this interaction is handled locally, and we do not receive the contents of your device.
How We Use Information
- To operate, maintain, and improve the Service.
- To fulfill your requests (e.g., performing installation steps).
- To communicate with you regarding support or updates.
- To detect, prevent, and address technical issues, abuse, or security incidents.
- To comply with legal obligations.
Sharing of Information
- Service providers: we may share minimal information with vendors that help us operate the Service (hosting, analytics, logging), bound by confidentiality obligations.
- Legal: we may share information if required by law or to protect rights, safety, or security.
- No sale of personal information: we do not sell your personal data.
Data Retention
We retain personal information only for as long as necessary to fulfill the purposes described here or as required by law. Transient WebUSB data used to perform your requested actions is not retained by us unless you explicitly submit it (e.g., in a support message or error report).
Security
We implement reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect information. No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
International Users
If you access the Service from outside your home jurisdiction, your information may be processed in locations where our providers operate. Those locations may have different data protection laws than your own.
Your Rights
Depending on your region, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, or port your personal information, and to object to or restrict certain processing. To exercise these rights, contact us at donbot@jtechforums.org. We may need to verify your identity to process requests.
Children’s Privacy
The Service is not directed to individuals under 18. Do not use the Service if you are under 18. If we learn we have collected personal information from a child, we will take steps to delete it.
Changes to this Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. The “Last updated” date reflects the latest changes. Material changes will be posted on this page and, where appropriate, notified to you.
